Chevy Silverado 1500 bed dimensions

Every published figure in one table, cited — plus the 2019 body-style split that makes the dimensions only half the answer.

How we know:Spec-verifiedOwner-report-verifiedWhat these mean

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 published cargo box dimensions, consistent across Regular, Double and Crew Cab. Exterior rail width from UWS.

Which number matters for which product

  • Exterior bed rail width (about 64 in). The crossover tool box figure. See what size tool box fits a Silverado.
  • Width between wheelhousings (50.63 in). Chests, drawer modules and bed slides. A 48 in slide fits with room for its rails.
  • Length at floor. Drawer systems and slides, where the length is exact rather than approximate.
  • Box height (22.4 in). The deepest of the four trucks here. Decides whether a load clears the rails, and how much a raised drawer floor costs you.

The 2019 split, which the dimensions do not capture

For the 2019 model year Chevrolet sold two different trucks: the new-body-style Silverado 1500 and the previous-generation Classic. Their bed dimensions are close enough that the table above is not what tells them apart, and their parts are not interchangeable.

  1. Check the tailgate badging and the VIN. The Classic carries the previous generation's styling.
  2. Read the listing's model-year range carefully. “2019-2026 (new body style)” and “2019-2024 Classic” are two different products.
  3. This matters most for covers, liners and racks — anything that references the bed's rail profile rather than just its floor dimensions.

The measurement to take yourself

The published figures describe a bare bed. Measure your exterior bed rail width outside-to-outside across the top of the rails nearest the cab, with a taut tape, and measure the wheelhousing width with whatever liner is actually in the bed.

A drop-in liner costs you most of an inch on each side of the wheelhousing measurement, which is enough to stop a 48-inch slide going in. That is the single most common fitment surprise on this truck.

Identical design and identical reasoning, cut for the 5'9" next-generation Silverado and Sierra 1500 bed. If you run a GM half-ton, this is the listing to order rather than the Ford one.

Who should skip it. Same caveat as every DECKED unit: you are trading vertical bed space and payload for drawers. Know which of those you need before you spend.

Two-row liners for the 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 at a price between the budget mats and the premium brands. The fit is close enough to the laser-measured liners that most owners cannot tell without the two side by side.

Who should skip it. The compound is harder than Husky's and the edges are less finished than WeatherTech's. It is a value play, not a quality play.

A tear-resistant rubber mat cut for the 5'10" GM bed. A mat is not a liner and does not pretend to be — it protects the floor, which is where 90% of the damage happens, and it stops cargo sliding, which a plastic tub does not.

Who should skip it. The bed sides stay exposed. If you load with a machine or throw scrap in, you need the sides covered too.

Questions people actually ask

How wide is a Silverado 1500 bed between the wheel wells?
50.63 inches per Chevrolet's published specifications, the same for every bed length and cab configuration. Measure yours with the bed liner in — a drop-in liner costs you most of an inch each side, which can stop a 48 in slide fitting.
How long is the Silverado short bed at the floor?
69.92 inches. The standard bed is 79.44 in and the long bed is 98.18 in, all at the floor. Those figures hold across Regular, Double and Crew Cab.
How deep is a Silverado bed?
22.4 inches box height, which is the deepest of the four trucks this site covers. That is useful capacity if you load tall, and it is also why a drawer system's raised floor costs less proportionally here than on a shallower bed.
Does a 2019 Silverado Classic have the same bed dimensions?
Close enough that the dimensions are not what distinguishes them, and that is exactly the trap. The two trucks take different covers, liners and racks because the rail profile differs. Check your VIN and tailgate badging before ordering.
What is the Silverado's bed rail width?
UWS publishes the exterior bed rail width — outside to outside across the top of the rails — as about 64 inches. That is the figure crossover tool box fitment is built around, and it is not the same as the 71.4 in floor width.
