Every other site organizes gear by category and leaves you to work out whether it fits. This is the other half of the problem, and it is the half that costs people money.

Our top pick in this section: the UWS UWS EC10473 69-inch Heavy-Wall Aluminum Crossover.

Here is the thing almost no gear site will tell you: “universal fit” in truck accessories means “fits some full-size beds”. It does not mean yours. A 69-inch crossover tool box is universal across the full-size market and physically cannot go on a Tacoma. A tonneau cover is sold by truck, year, bed length and sometimes by tailgate option, and ordering the wrong one means a freight return on a bulky item.
So this section is the fitment layer. For each of the four trucks this site covers, you get the real bed dimensions, what size tool box actually fits, and a per-truck roundup of the gear that goes on without a fight.
| Truck | Class | Common bed lengths | The fitment quirk to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ford F-150 | Full size half-ton | 5.5 ft, 6.5 ft, 8 ft | Aluminum body, and the Lightning's bed hardware differs |
| Chevy Silverado 1500 | Full size half-ton | 5'8", 6'6", 8 ft | 2019 split into “new body” and “classic”, with different parts |
| Ram 1500 | Full size half-ton | 5'7", 6'4" | RamBox changes the usable bed width entirely |
| Toyota Tacoma | Mid size | 5 ft, 6 ft | Full-size boxes and racks simply do not fit |
They are here because they are the four work pickups this site's readers actually drive. The cross-model reference table — every bed length, width and wheel-well width in one place — is the truck bed dimensions chart, and it is the page to bookmark before you shop for anything that mounts to a bed.
The measurement that decides whether a crossover tool box fits is the exterior bed rail width — outside edge to outside edge across the top of the rails, at the point nearest the cab. UWS publishes that figure as roughly 65 in for an F-150, 64 in for a Silverado 1500, 66 in for a Ram 1500 and 57 in for a Tacoma.
A box's advertised length is larger than that number because the ends overhang the rails, which is why a “69-inch” box is a full-size box rather than a box for a 69-inch bed. The seven-to-nine-inch gap between a full-size and a mid-size truck's rail width is exactly why a full-size box perches on a Tacoma's rails instead of mounting to them.
The per-truck versions of that answer, with the dimensions cited to the manufacturer, are here: F-150, Silverado, Ram 1500 and Tacoma.
Each model page below is a destination in its own right: the bed dimensions summarized, the tool box that fits, and sections covering the rest of the categories with links through to the full roundups. Start with your truck, then follow the category you are actually shopping.
If you have not bought anything yet and you are setting up a truck from scratch, read contractor truck setup first. It sets out the order to buy in, which matters more than any individual product choice, because each item constrains the next.
