Which number matters for which product

  • Exterior bed rail width (about 66 in). The crossover tool box figure, and the widest of the four trucks here. See what size tool box fits a Ram 1500.
  • Width between wheelhouses (51.0 in). Chests, drawer modules and slides. The most generous figure of these four trucks.
  • Maximum cargo width (66.4 in). The widest interior point, which is what a cargo bar spans. A 44-74 in bar is the right range.
  • Length at floor. Drawer systems and slides, exactly. 67.4 in and 76.3 in are the numbers to order against.

What RamBox changes

RamBox is a pair of lockable storage boxes built into the bed walls. The figures above are for a bed without it. With RamBox fitted, two things change and both matter for accessory fitment.

  1. Usable interior width is reduced. The boxes occupy space inside the walls, so the maximum cargo width is narrower than the non-RamBox figure.
  2. The rail profile is interrupted. The box lids sit in the rail line, which changes what a tonneau cover seals to and what a tool box clamp has to grip.
  3. Parts are listed separately. “RamBox” and “no RamBox” are two different fitments across covers, liners, drawer systems and racks. They are not interchangeable and a non-RamBox part on a RamBox bed will not fit.

The 2019 Classic split

From 2019, Ram sold the new-body-style 1500 and the previous-generation Classic alongside each other, exactly as Chevrolet did with the Silverado. They take different covers, liners and some racks. Check the tailgate badging and your VIN.

The measurement to take yourself

Measure the exterior bed rail width outside-to-outside across the top of the rails nearest the cab, tape taut. Measure the wheelhouse width with whatever liner is actually in the bed — a drop-in liner costs you most of an inch each side, which on a 51.0 inch span is still comfortable for a 48 inch slide but worth knowing.

The Ram fitment. Worth calling out because Ram's RamBox option changes the usable bed width, and a drawer system that does not account for it will not drop in — check which bed you have before ordering.

Who should skip it. Not compatible with a RamBox bed. That is a genuinely different bed, not a trim difference.

Laser-measured, high-wall liners for the Ram 1500 in a first and second row set. The reason WeatherTech still wins is the wall height at the door sill — that edge is what stops meltwater running onto the carpet instead of into the tray.

Who should skip it. They are the most expensive liners you can buy and the hard surface is noisier underfoot than a softer TPE mat.

A vinyl roll-up with gear straps for the new-body Ram 1500 at a budget price. The straps matter more than they sound: they are what stops the rolled bundle flapping at highway speed.

Who should skip it. Low-profile flush fit means the rails have to be straight and undamaged. On a bed with a dented rail you will chase leaks.

Questions people actually ask

How wide is a Ram 1500 bed between the wheel wells?
51.0 inches on a non-RamBox bed, per Ram's published specifications, with a maximum cargo width of 66.4 in. That is the widest of the four trucks this site covers. A RamBox bed is narrower, because the in-wall boxes take interior space.
What are the Ram 1500 bed dimensions with RamBox?
Narrower than the non-RamBox figures, because the storage boxes occupy space inside the bed walls, and with an interrupted rail profile because the lids sit in the rail line. Parts are listed as RamBox or non-RamBox and are not interchangeable — filter on that first.
How long is the Ram 1500 5'7 bed at the floor?
67.4 inches, with 53.8 cu ft of cargo volume and 21.4 in of depth. The 6'4" bed is 76.3 in at the floor, 61.5 cu ft and 21.5 in deep.
What is the Ram 1500's bed rail width?
UWS publishes the exterior bed rail width — outside to outside across the rail tops — as about 66 inches, the widest of the four trucks here. That is the figure crossover tool box fitment is built around.
Does a Ram 1500 Classic have different bed dimensions?
Close enough that dimensions are not what distinguishes them, which is the trap. The new body style and the Classic take different covers, liners and some racks because of the rail and body profile. Check the badging before ordering.
