Husky truck tool box review
Before the review: Husky is a Home Depot house brand, so you cannot buy one through this site. Here is what the boxes actually are, and the closest things that earn us a commission.

Heads up: we earn an Amazon commission when you buy through our links, at no extra cost to you. Prices are pulled live from Amazon and were last checked October 5, 2026; when we cannot verify a price we say so rather than print an old one. How this site is funded.
How we know:Owner-report-verifiedSpec-verifiedWhat these mean
Start with the thing most reviews of this box will not tell you: Husky is The Home Depot's house brand and Husky truck tool boxes are a Home Depot exclusive. They are not sold on Amazon. If you are reading a “best Husky tool box” page with buy buttons on it, those buttons are not taking you to a Husky box.
We are an Amazon affiliate, which means we earn nothing by sending you to Home Depot and we are telling you anyway, because the alternative is pretending a product exists where it does not. What follows is an honest account of what these boxes are, and then the comparable boxes you can buy online — which are the ones we earn on, and we are saying so plainly.
If a Husky box is in front of you at a Home Depot at a price you like, it is a reasonable mid-market crossover box. If you are shopping online, you are buying something else, and the honest comparables are below.
What a Husky truck tool box actually is
A conventional mid-market crossover box. The range is mostly aluminum, mostly single-lid, in the standard full-size lengths, with conventional center-latch hardware. In format terms it sits in the same bracket as the Better Built Crown Series and the Dee Zee Specialty line.
Availability. In stock in a store, today. That is the genuine advantage and it is not a small one when you need a box this week.
Price. Mid-market. Below the heavy-wall and fleet-grade boxes.
Lid. Conventional single-skin panels across most of the range, which means the same flex-and-seal consideration as every box in this bracket. Why the lid matters.
Warranty and returns. Handled through the store, which some people strongly prefer to shipping a bulky item back.
The question people are actually asking
Are Husky truck tool boxes waterproof?
Almost no truck tool box in any bracket is waterproof in a tested sense, and very few manufacturers publish a rating. Weather-resistant is the honest description for this whole category: a good seal and a rigid lid keep tools dry through rain and a wash, and a flexing single-skin lid lets water in eventually.
That answer is the same for Husky as for every other mid-market box, and the full discussion — including what the specifications actually say and what they do not — is in are truck tool boxes waterproof.
The comparable boxes you can buy online
These sit in the same bracket: aluminum, full-size, single-lid, mid-market pricing. The first two are the closest direct equivalents; the third is what you buy if you decide to step up a bracket on the strength of the lid.
Comparable crossover boxes
These are Amazon links and we earn a commission on them. We are not pretending they are Husky boxes — they are the honest equivalents in the same format and price bracket.
A 70 x 19 x 14 in gloss black aluminum single-lid box at a price the premium brands do not touch. You give up some lid rigidity; you keep most of the useful volume.
Who should skip it. Not the one if you plan to stand on the lid daily — the panel is thinner than UWS's foam-filled RigidCore and will flex. Buy the UWS or a saddle box instead.

What works
+Full 19 in of depth — a framing square lies flat
+Gloss finish wipes clean; dust does not show the way matte does
+Priced well below the premium aluminum boxes
What does not
−Lid flexes under weight compared with foam-filled designs
−14 in height can crowd rear glass on lowered or small-cab trucks
−Latch hardware is the first thing owners report replacing
The narrow-body crossover. It eats noticeably less fore-aft bed length than a standard 19-20 in box, which is the whole point on a 5'5" or 5'7" bed where every inch in front of the wheel wells matters.
Who should skip it. If you carry long power tools in cases, the narrow body will fight you. A 19 in box swallows a circular saw case flat; this one does not.

What works
+Gives back several inches of bed floor versus a standard-width box
+Light enough for a one-person install
+Cheapest route into a real aluminum crossover
What does not
−Narrow interior will not take large tool cases flat
−Thinner material than the heavy-wall boxes
−Published dimensions vary by listing — measure before you order
Heavy-wall aluminum, a foam-filled RigidCore lid that does not flex when you sit on it, and a low profile that still clears most rear glass. This is the crossover to buy if you intend to keep the truck.
Who should skip it. Skip it on a 5'5" short bed. At 69 inches it will sit on the rails, but you lose a disproportionate share of a short bed and the money is better spent on a side-mount pair.

What works
+Foam-filled lid does not oil-can under body weight
+Low profile clears rear glass on most full-size crew cabs
+Heavy-wall extrusion survives being used as a step
+Gas struts are serviceable rather than sealed units
What does not
−Among the most expensive aluminum crossovers on the shelf
−69 in is a full-size length — not a mid-size answer
A 70 in slimline cross-bed box with a low enough crown that a folding tonneau will usually close over it. If you want both a cover and a box and refuse to cut either, start here.
Who should skip it. Slim means slim. If a cover is not in the plan, you are paying for a constraint you do not have — buy a deeper box.

What works
+Low crown clears most tri-fold and hard folding covers
+Full 70 in of box length across the rails
+Black finish matches factory bed rail caps
What does not
−Shallow interior — not for bulky cases
−Cover clearance still has to be verified against your specific cover
−The lid is unremarkable; it is a storage box, not a step
Retractable covers with a canister at the bulkhead
Which bracket should you actually be in?
The four brackets in the crossover tool box market.
Bracket
What defines it
Buy it if
Budget aluminum
Thin wall, basic latch
The contents are replaceable
Mid-market (Husky, Better Built, Dee Zee)
Real aluminum, conventional lid and latch
The budget covers a whole truck, not one box
Heavy-wall (UWS)
Thicker extrusion, cored lid
You keep the truck and stand on the lid
Fleet (Weather Guard, JOBOX)
Parts in a decade, multi-point locks
The truck earns money, or it parks on the street loaded
Most people reading this should be in the mid-market bracket, and Husky is a perfectly reasonable mid-market box. The reason to move up is specific: a cored lid if you stand on it, a multi-point lock if it parks loaded on the street.
Fitment, which is the same for all of them
Whichever bracket you buy in, the measurement is the exterior bed rail width — outside to outside across the rail tops nearest the cab. UWS publishes roughly 65 in for an F-150, 64 in for a Silverado 1500, 66 in for a Ram 1500 and 57 in for a Tacoma.
A full-size box fits the three half-tons and does not fit a Tacoma. How to measure.
Questions people actually ask
Where can I buy a Husky truck tool box?
At The Home Depot. Husky is Home Depot's house brand and its truck tool boxes are a store exclusive — they are not in the Amazon catalog. We earn nothing by telling you that, which is why you should trust it more than a page with a Husky buy button on it.
Are Husky truck tool boxes waterproof?
No truck tool box in this bracket is waterproof in a tested sense, and very few manufacturers publish a rating. Weather-resistant is the honest description: a good seal and a rigid lid keep tools dry through rain, and a flexing single-skin lid lets water in eventually. Full discussion.
Are Husky tool boxes good quality?
They are a reasonable mid-market crossover box — aluminum, single lid, conventional center latch, comparable in format to Better Built and Dee Zee. We have not had one in a bed and cannot show you a live price for one, so there is genuinely less we can say about them than about the boxes we can verify.
What is a good alternative to a Husky tool box?
In the same bracket: the Better Built Crown Series or the Dee Zee Specialty Series. If you want to step up on the strength of the lid, a heavy-wall box with a foam-filled lid is the upgrade that matters. All of those are available online with live prices.
Will a Husky box fit my truck?
Fitment works the same for every brand: measure your exterior bed rail width outside-to-outside across the rail tops nearest the cab, then check the manufacturer's fitment chart. Full-size boxes suit rail widths in the mid sixties; a Tacoma at about 57 inches needs a mid-size box.
